
Last month, East Feliciana High School hosted a Black History Month program entitled 'What Can You Contribute to the Future - African Americans and the Arts.' The program featured a skit inspired by the theme entitled "Black to the Future."



STUDENTS IN THE SPOTLIGHT AT EFMS: The student-led Black History showcase at East Feliciana Middle School featured celebrations of inspirational figures like astronaut Mae Jemison as well as opportunities for students to highlight their own public speaking skills.



As part of celebrating Black History Month, students at East Feliciana Enrichment Academy incorporated English language arts into their science learning by reading the book ‘Gifted Hands’ by neurosurgeon Ben Carson and developing presentations & acrostic poems about Dr. Carson.




INVESTIGATING TEXTS TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY AT SES: At Slaughter Elementary School, 6th graders worked collaboratively in Mrs. Green’s English language arts class to celebrate Black History Month by diving into text about Muhammad Ali.



Jackson Elementary School’s annual Black History Program showcased students’ amazing talent and knowledge. The program, titled “Homecoming: Honoring Louisiana HBCUs and Their Legacies,” featured student readings and performances highlighting
each HBCU as well as the “Divine 9” fraternities and sororities. The entire school participated in a mass choir led by music teacher Mr. Bryant Harris, a proud HBCU graduate who also sang and played his trumpet in the program. Thank you to Mr.
Bryson London, 5th and 6th grade teacher, for planning and organizing this awesome celebration of Black History.





Last week, students at Clinton Elementary School celebrated the culmination of their Black History Month learning with a school-wide program featuring student performances.

FOCUSED ON SUCCESS: East Feliciana STEAM Academy teacher Miss Washington works with a small group of 7th grade students during math class. Based on their individual goals, students are working to master specific standards from their interim assessment that they need more work on.


Celebrating Zearn Royalty at EFMS: As part of the school’s Mardi Gras festivities,
East Feliciana Middle School crowned their 7th and 8th grade Zearn Queens and
Kings. These students earned recognition for successfully completing the most online Zearn math lessons. These online lessons support student mastery of the standards that students are learning in the classroom.





Celebrating "PAW”some Students at SES: Slaughter Elementary School assistant principal Mrs. Hebert presented certificates and a Raising Cane’s certificate to the school's kindergarten Students of the Month!


CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY IN EAST FELICIANA PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Students at Clinton Elementary School researched, wrote, and presented on an African American difference maker of their choice.


Earlier this month, Jackson Elementary School hosted a first semester awards program for students in first through sixth grades. Award categories included good conduct, most improved, meritorious attendance, A-B Honor Roll, and Principal’s Honor Roll.





EFMS BASKETBALL AND CHEER CLOSE OUT SUCCESSFUL WINTER SEASON: The East Feliciana Middle School basketball and cheer teams hosted an Eighth Grade Night during their final home basketball game last Monday and concluded the season last Tuesday with a victoria at Livonia!




SPOTLIGHT ON THE ARTS AT EF STEAM: Talented theatre student Khanye Ferguson recited “The Tradition” by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Jericho Brown during the East Feliciana STEAM Academy’s school-wide Morning Meeting. Each Monday and Wednesday during February, talented theatre students at EF STEAM have recited a poem by an African American author.

EFHS Soars to Record Heights at LHSAA State Indoor Track & Field Championships: On Saturday, February 17, the East Feliciana High School boys indoor track team placed fourth statewide in Division II at the LHSAA State Indoor Track & Field Championships held at Carl Maddox Fieldhouse on the campus of LSU. Herman Batiste won the state championship in the high jump (where his jump of 2.04m was the highest in any class) and the 60 meter hurdles. THE PLAY'S THE THING AT JES: First graders at Jackson Elementary School visited the Manship Theatre at the Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge to see a production of ‘The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales.’
